Indian Navy Selection Procedure 2017

UPSC Entry Scheme Procedure

This is one of the main scheme for Indian Navy Selection Procedure. Union Public Service Commission entries are held twice in a year. Three renowned exams comes under this scheme. The these entries are under IHQ MoD (Army)/ADG (Recruiting) as the nodal agency.

National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA & NA)

This entry is under Union Public Service Commission. This exam consists of written examination conducted by the UPSC followed by conduct of the SSB interview, medical test by Indian Navy (naval candidates only) and final preparation of merit list by UPSC.

Date of Advertisement: Jun/Dec (Every year)

The training of officers selected through this entry, commences in the month of Jan/Jul every year.

Combined Defence Services Exam (CDSE)

Similar to NDA, this entry also comes under UPSC. First of all, UPSC Conducts Written exam to shortlist candidates followed by SSB interview, medical test by Indian Navy (naval candidates only) and final preparation of merit list by UPSC.

Date of Advertisement for CDS: Jan/Jul (Every year)

The training of officers selected through this entry, commences in the month of Nov/Jul every year.

NCC Entry Selection Procedure

Please note that No written test is conducted for NCC entry Scheme. The vacancies for Naval Wing Senior Div NCC ‘C’ certificate holders are published along with CDS Recruitment. All the eligible candidates need to forward their application directly to IHQ MoD (N)/ DMPR through DGNCC.

You will be called directly for SSB interview. After qualifying SSB interview these candidates undergo medical examination and if found fit, are inducted in the Indian Navy on the basis of All India Merit.

The training of officers selected through this entry normally commences in the month of Jan/Jul every year.

SSC Entry Scheme (DEPC/DESSC) Selection Process

This entry scheme does not come under UPSC. To recruit Direct Entry Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission (DEPC and DESSC) one advertisement will be released in leading newspapers and Employment News. This recruitment is being published twice in a year.

Date of Advertisement: Between Feb to May and Aug to Nov

The training of officers selected through these entries normally commences in the month of Jan/Jul every year. All the eligible candidates are invited to fill the application form for DESSC and DEPC. This entries comes under  IHQ MoD (Navy) /DMPR.

Below steps are part of Selection process under SSC Scheme,

  • The applications are received and candidates are shortlisted for SSB based on cut off decided by IHQ MoD (Navy)/ DMPR.
  • The SSB qualified candidates undergo medical examination and if found fit, are inducted in the Indian Navy on the basis of All India Merit.
  • The entries are 10+2 (B.Tech), Direct Entry Short Service Commission (GS (X /Hydro)/ Tech/ NA/ IT/ Sub/ Pilot/ Obs/ Edu/ Log/ ATC/ NAIC/ Law/ Sports and Permanent Commission (Log / Edu/ NAIC/ Law/ Musician).

University Scheme Scheme Selection Process

This scheme is conducted for both Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC). UES is conducted once a year. Selection Process involve below steps,

  • Various teams are deputed to different technical colleges all across the country for Campus Interview (CI).
  • The Candidates of seventh semester, who have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% up to fifth term, are graded by the team as per their performance during the CI.
  • The selected candidates are called for SSB.
  • The SSB qualified candidates undergo medical examination and if found fit, are inducted in the Indian Navy on the basis of All India Merit.
  • The post/branches on offer for UES includes Technical (Engineering, Electrical and Naval Architecture), Executive (Pilot, Observer, Logistics, General Service and Information Technology), Aviation Technical (E/L) and Submarine (E/L).

  1. Hey hi I born in 1994 February. Can I apply in navy for any post? I completed B. Com. and MHRD in 2016 and with that have diploma in law also.
