CDS Selection Process 2017
In this post, we will discuss CDS (Under UPSC) Selection Procedure. CDS stands for Combined Defence Services and UPSC stands for Union Public Selection Commission. Upsc conducts cds exam recruitment and release the notification twice in year in the month of February and November.

Combined Defence Services Selection Procedure (संयुक्त रक्षा सेवाओं की चयन प्रक्रिया)
UPSC conducts CDS exam which has its unique selection procedure. CDS Selection Process (step wise) includes below steps,
- Step 1: Written examination(लिखित परीक्षा)
- Step 2: Interview/ Intelligence Test/ Personality Test (साक्षात्कार / खुफिया / व्यक्तित्व परीक्षण)
- Step 3: Document Verification(दस्तावेज़ सत्यापन)
- Step 4: Medical Examination(चिकित्सा परीक्षण)

First of all you need to appear for written examination conducted by UPSC. all the candidates who clear written examination need to appear for next round which is intelligence and personality test at the Service Selection Board (SSBs) based on their preference, by the respective service HQ.

Total Marks: 100 for each subject
Please note that,
- All the candidates appearing for IMA(Indian Military Academy), INA(Indian Naval Academy), IAFA(Indian Air Force Academy) will have written test comprising of English, General Knowledge and Elementary mathematics subjects.
- All the candidates appearing for OTA(officers training academy) the written test comprising of English and General Knowledge.

Interview/ Personality Test/ Intelligence Test
After successful completion of step 1 (written exam), now you need to appear for interview. This often know as SSB Process.
The SSB procedure consists of two stage selection process-Stage I and Stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for Stage II.
SSB Stage 1: you will go through Officer Intelligence rating Test (OIR), Picture perception and Discussion (P&DT) Test. You will be judged based on your performance and If you are shortlisted in stage 1, you need to appear for stage 2.
SSB Stage 2: stage II comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officers Tasks, Psychology Tests and the conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days.
The personality of candidate is assessed by three different assessor’s viz. The interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist. There are no separate weight-age for each test. The marks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in the entire test. If you qualify at SSB or make your place in merit list then you will required to go through the document verification.
Third step is Document Verification. It will be conducted only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test. If you get recommendation at SSB then you need to appear for Medical Examination and undergo a medical test procedure which will test your fitness as per the post applied.

All the candidates who gets recommended by the SSB will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers.
Women candidates will undergo Medical Examination by a Medical Board comprising male/ female doctors/ specialists/ Gynecologist. There will be a Lady Medical Officer as member of Board.
Only those candidates will be admitted to the Academy who are declared fit by the Medical Board.
